Fintiba Blocked Account: Process, Requirements and when it’s worth it (2026)
By: Simon Heinrich – Last updated: 07/2026
If you need proof of financial resources for your visa, a blocked account for Germany is often the key step. Fintiba offers a digital blocked account for this purpose.
In this article, you’ll learn when Fintiba is relevant, what the process typically looks like, which documents you should plan for and what to check before opening an account.
Recommendation: Choose Fintiba if you want a digital blocked account with an established process and you value clearly defined fees and payout logic (monthly fees start only after your funds have arrived).
Not a good fit if… your main goal is the cheapest provider: Fintiba sits in the upper price segment (setup fee and ongoing monthly fee) and is noticeably more expensive than alternatives.
Costs and fees
The fees for the Fintiba blocked account are structured as follows:
-
One-time account opening fee: €159.00
-
Administration fee: €9.90 per month (starts once the blocked amount has been credited to the account)
-
Extension: €159.00
In addition, Fintiba requires or recommends a buffer of €100.00 so that possible fees on international transfers do not reduce the blocked amount and delay your blocking confirmation.
According to Fintiba, this buffer is not a fee; it is returned to your current account with the first payout.
Fintiba blocked account – key facts at a glance
- Digital application: The blocked account is applied for and managed online.
- Fees: €159 one-time + €9.90 monthly; the monthly fee starts only after the funds have arrived.
- Buffer: €100 on top to avoid deductions due to currency exchange/transfer fees.
- Extension: possible, but costly; only book it if necessary because setup fees are non-refundable if you cancel.
Process: step by step
- Application / registration You register with Fintiba and open the blocked account — according to Fintiba, you only need your passport to open it.
- Verification for payouts To start payouts, you complete the verification process in your Fintiba account.
- Receive the blocking confirmation Once the full amount has been received, the blocking confirmation is issued or becomes available.
- Set up payouts after arrival After you arrive, you link your payout account (current account) so monthly payouts can start; the monthly administration fee is taken into account automatically.
Documents and requirements
What you should have ready (for identification & payouts):
- Passport: To open the account, you need your passport; you also upload a passport copy and a selfie with the passport (everything clearly readable).
- Visa or residence permit: For “money access”/verification, Fintiba requires your German visa document or a residence permit, depending on your status.
- Verification (depends on nationality): In your account, Fintiba will automatically show which verification method applies to you (e.g., selfie + passport photo, video identification, or PostIdent).
- If PostIdent is required: In addition to your passport, you need a document confirming your address in Germany (e.g., registration certificate or rental contract)
Cancellation / refund
You can generally close your Fintiba blocked account once you no longer need it—the request is made directly in your Fintiba account via Blocked Account → Close Account.
Important: Once a blocking confirmation has been issued, Fintiba usually requires an official release document (“Sperrfreigabe”) – a document from the responsible German mission/authority instructing the removal of the block – because Fintiba guarantees to the German authorities that your funds are blocked.
This is how closure typically works:
-
Start the request: Log in and go to Blocked Account → Close Account, then upload the required documents.
-
Submit documents (before entering Germany): Fintiba requires an official confirmation from the German embassy/consulate handling your visa, with the instruction to unblock the account (release document).
-
Additional documents depending on your case: If you already received your visa but still won’t travel, you also need proof that you have invalidated the visa; if your visa was refused, Fintiba additionally requires the official refusal letter.
-
Submit documents (after entering Germany): If you close the account after arrival, you need an official document from the foreigners’ authority allowing closure/unblocking; afterwards, Fintiba transfers the money back to the account it originally came from.
